Cagayan de Oro City

Sam and Aida Lacanienta
On Nov 8, 2010, Mike and Val drove north to Cagayan de Oro City (CDO).   It was nearly an 8 hour trip for us.   But, it was through winding mountain roads and so it was beautiful.
On Nov 9 and 10, Mike joined the Officiating Officer's Convention in CDO.   He was oriented on marriage contracts and birth certificates and how to process both of them.   It was good that he attended.
Once the convention was over, Mike and Val were able to spend a few days just relaxing in CDO. We were invited to visit the home of a friend and were pleasantly surprised at the remoteness of their property.   It was soooo quiet and peaceful and such a relaxing time.
Sam and Aida work with Word of Life Philippines as well as pastor a small church in the mountains of CDO. This couple has been in the ministry for many years now and it was such a blessing for us to sit under their tutelage for a few days. We hope to implement some of their ideas at NEOS. Thank you, Sam and Ida, for the respite and the wisdom.   We enjoyed the time very much.

TCE 1

On October 26 - 30, 2010, Esther and Steven Boado plus Melissa Boyken, traveled to Davao City and lived there for one week in order to join the class Teaching Children Effectively (TCE) Level 1 through Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF).   Esther, Steven, and Melissa will now do a practicum at NEOS in order to fulfill the requirements to receive a certificate of completion.
It is exciting to see our children join us in the ministry and to become a part of brining boys and girls as well as young people and adults to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
If you are interested in taking a TCE class through your local CEF office, please get on the CEF website and find the contact information for your local CEF area director.   Simply request a TCE training to be conducted in your church.

NEOS Vehicles

On October 20, 2010, Mike went to Davao City and came home with a new vehicle for the NEOS Fellowship Center.   God has been so good to provide most of what was needed to purchase this vehicle.  We still need about $6000 to cover the balance of this purchase.
NEOS now has two Kia 2700 vans to use in moving people around Tagum City in order to get them to and from NEOS functions.   Most of our contacts at NEOS do NOT have vehicles of their own and cannot afford to pay the money it would take them on public transportation to get to NEOS each Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night.
Because we now have two Kia 2700 vans, we no longer need the blue car.  Please help us pray that our old blue car will now sell.                                                Thank you.

The NEOS vehicles help the people get to NEOS so they can learn about Jesus.

Update:  May 2011
The $6000 outstanding balance for the new Kia has now been paid for and the blue car has been sold.   God is so good.   Thank you so much for your prayers.

Internet Safety Class #1

On October 15, 2010, NEOS had its first internet safety class.  There were 26 people in attendance and the young people learned a lot.
Most young people in the Philippines do not own their own computer and so they go to an internet cafe to do their research and to get on their social networking sites.
We taught the young people about how to compose their passwords, how to log off before they leave the public computer, and how to be safe while surfing the internet.  The students were enlighten and the parents who were in the audience were also encouraged at what they learned.
We have been asked to do another class on November 19.   This time we will focus on the topic of Facebook.   Melissa Boyken is the one making the power point presentations and we are borrowing a power point projector from the Tagum City local government.

Official Opening of the NEOS Library

On August 30, 2010, the NEOS Library was officially opened to the public.   We even had a book fair and a members orientation workshop.   We are hoping that more and more people will come to NEOS to use the awesome library.

We need more high school and college text books.

This will help make the NEOS library a place where students can come and study and find the resource materials that they need to do their assignments.

Please pray that God will use the NEOS library to touch the hearts of people in Tagum City for Jesus Christ.

Kindergarten at Faith Academy Mindanao

Val and her 'kinders'
Party for Mrs. Boado's last
day in Kindergarten

From August 1 until August 20, 2010, Valerie was the kindergarten teacher at Faith Academy Mindanao in Davao City.   She was asked to teach until the regular teacher was able to arrive from her home country.

Val had a marvelous time and thinks that maybe it is about time for her to get back into the classroom on a full-time basis.

Val used the NEOS Bible Curriculum For All Ages to tell the Bible stories for her classroom.  It was a wonderful success.  Val was delighted to see the children have fun learning what God did on each day of Creation.

Please find details in the NEOS Fellowship Center blog on how to order your own copies of Val's Bible curriculum books.

Pastor Mike has now done three weddings.   These three couples are now married due to the ministry of the NEOS Fellowship Center.

Please pray that NEOS can continue to help couples go to the altar in order to join their lives in holy matrimony.

Mike's First Official Wedding

On July 8, 2010, Pastor Mike Boado officiated his first wedding.  Brian and Nenncar now live in the NEOS facility in one of the boarding rooms.

Brian drives a pedicab that belongs to NEOS.  This pedicab is a motorcycle with a side-car that is driven as a commercial vehicle.   Brian uses it to provide for his family and it also gives NEOS a little extra income each month.
We are doing as much as we can to help NEOS financially right here in Tagum.   We are very grateful to Brian and Nenncar for their part at NEOS.   Please pray for this young couple as they grow in Jesus.

Ro-Ann's Wedding

On June 29, 2010, one of our former NEOS students and teachers, Ro-Ann Valera, got married in Tagum City.   It was such a joy for our family to be a part of the wonderful celebration.

at Youth Fellowship.

Melissa Boyken arrived in Tagum on June 24, 2010.   She is now very involved in the NEOS ministry as well as our family.   Melissa goes to NEOS on a regular basis just like one of the NEOS staff.   She helps with all of the children's ministries as well as the youth ministries.   Melissa is also being a big help as she is the one in charge of DeeAnn's homeschooling for now.   We are all very glad that Melissa is here with us in Tagum.   Melissa plans to stay in Tagum until May of 2011.

Treasure Swap at NEOS

A Treasure Swap is where people bring things from their homes that they do not need anymore.  It is then laid out like a garage sale.  So, everyone donates and then simply swaps. There is no money involved.  Just sharing and swapping.

On June 11, 2010, NEOS had its first Treasure Swap.   We did it for the volunteers who are teaching all of the Bible classes at NEOS.

We also gave each of them a bag of school supplies.

We are very grateful for our NEOS volunteers and all that they do to help the NEOS ministry flourish.   Please pray for these young people that they will grow to know Jesus more and more as they continue to learn as they teach at NEOS.

Early Childhood Workshop

On May 26, 2010, Valerie spoke to 51 preschool teachers on how to understand child development and learning.
The teachers walked away encouraged and excited to start
a new school year.
